Europe’s Tallest Freestanding Advertising Structure.

Reaching a lofty 38 metres, the M8 Tower is Glasgow’s iconic new landmark. In prime position on Scotland’s busiest road, it is set to be a dynamic addition to the area, breathing life into the heart of the region.

With 3.3 million road users every fortnight, the M8 carries traffic directly to and from Glasgow International Airport and connects the country’s two largest cities: Glasgow and Edinburgh. Therefore Glasgow Airport sought to harness its opportunity to create a structure that was both commercially valuable and a dynamic asset to the surrounding area.

Wildstone worked closely with Glasgow Airport to identify land on the airport boundary which would be suitable to build a digital advertising tower. Wildstone’s planning team then achieved the first consent for a digital advertising panel on this motorway.

"We are delighted to have worked with Wildstone in the development of this ground-breaking structure." Francois Bourienne, Chief Commercial Officer at Glasgow Airport.

Wildstone’s design team were inspired by the heritage of the Paisley pattern and celebrating Paisley’s bid to become City of Culture 2021. Rich in history, Paisley is famous especially for its textiles and Paisley pattern shawls. With its sharp focus on design integrity, Wildstone created a design which is modern, yet in-keeping with tradition.

The tower features a delicate paisley patterning with a solid stainless steel finish. Using 20 tonnes of steel to construct, the M8 Tower weighs a massive 25 tonnes.

Externally lit with the latest LED lighting technology to ensure incredible impact both day and night, both directions showcase two iconic mega 6 digital screens. The smaller panels are incorporated into the main structure, reaching local traffic on the Abbotsinch Road. Content on the smaller local screens will run 20% local messages from Renfrewshire Council, mixed with 80% commercial advertising content.

Francois Bourienne, Chief Commercial Officer at Glasgow Airport said "We are delighted to have worked with Wildstone in the development of this ground-breaking structure.

It incorporates what is a truly iconic design which recognises the importance of Paisley to the region. This brings a wonderful sense of place to the M8 corridor which Glasgow Airport is proud to be associated with."

The expertise and technical knowhow of the Wildstone team, together with the unique design and technology, brought this site to market, generating significant additional income for Glasgow Airport.
